Have you ever found yourself stuck in a boring conversation, but you can't think of a way to escape? Give this a go.
Steps
1. Pretend that you're interested. If you pretend that you are listening, chances are they will talk themselves out. Just wait for the other person to stop talking, then change the subject. No one can talk for ever, as much as it seems they can.
2. Keep moving. Walking around will show them that you're not really paying attention.
3. Drop hints. Hint that you're not interested or you have no idea what they're talking about. Comments like, "That's not really my thing", or "Sorry, I drifted off for a moment there," will discourage them from continuing. By breaking their train of thought you can successfully make them lose interest in talking.
4. Tell them you're not interested. If all else fails, just flatly saying you're not particularly interested by the topic or that you'd rather talk about something else is a guaranteed conversation stopper. Be careful how you do it though, don't hurt their feelings.
Tips
· If you don't want to outright tell them to shut up, you can pretend that someone's calling you from the other side of the room. Excuse yourself and walk off.
· Remember that if you're in a boring group conversation, walking off spontaneously is alright. Its generally more accepted that during a social gathering, you drift between conversations.
· You can always just try to change the topic.
Warnings
· Be careful when telling someone you're not interested. They may be talking to you because they're lonely, or have little experience in conversation making.
· Don't just stop talking to them and ignore them. This is mean and will make you enemies.
